World Industires - “Complete Video Collection 89 - 96”
April 01, 2008

What Is It?
The three disc retrospective boxset comprising of all six World Industries videos released between 1989 to 1996. Including Rubbish Heap, Two World Industries Men, Love Child, New World Order, 20 Shot Sequence and Trilogy, this boxset contains some of the most influential street skating videos of all time, accompanied by unseen footage, commentaries and various other extras.
Who's On It?
So many well known and respected heads, including Daewon Song, Rodney Mullen, Chris Pastras, Mike Vallely, Lavar and Marcus McBride, Ron Chatman, Gino Ianucci, Jason Dill, Keenan Milton, Henry Sanchez, Clyde Singleton, Shiloh Greathouse, Jovontae Turner and many more besides.
Highlights
As I'd imagine a lot of people did, the first time I saw many of these videos they were usually fourth generation copies that had been dubbed from long play to short play somewhere along the line resulting in barely a watchable picture and sound that appeared to be coming from way out in the distance, accompanied by a constantly varying buzzing noise. Watching these videos in full quality with a perfectly audible soundtrack for the first time was somewhat of a revelation to say the least.
Each disc houses two of the videos, unseen footage and tour edits, with each main video coming backed up with an optional commentary from the likes of Daniel Castillo, Shiloh, Steve Rocco and Clyde Singleton, whose comedic dissection of 20 Shot Sequence is worth the asking price alone.
I think this is also the first official public outing for the 1990 trade show film "Two World Industries Men", a shocking seven minute video showcasing the talents of newly appointed pros Chris Pastras and Randy Colvin. Though the video never had a proper release, dubbed copies have been in circulation for years.
The unused footage includes raw footage and transfer tapes from over the years with far too much good skating from both team riders and friends to start mentioning specifics. The rest of the extras is comprised of footage from various tours, including the infamous "Love Child" am tour in 1992, and a gallery of World Industries ground breaking first adverts.
Overall
As with last years Girl Films boxset, it's hard to review a release like this as the highlight is surely owning a body of work as influential as this one on a modern digital format that will not wear out. For the older generation it is one more reason to lay the trusty VHS player to rest, whilst for the younger end it is a great opportunity to see modern street skating from it's original inception through to the mid 1990s and see a lot of skating which, up until this point, has not been readily available. All the extras certainly provide extra insight into what it was like to be around World Industries at its prime, and the standard of skating in the unused footage clearly reinforces how much talent the team has housed over the years.
Purchase is mandatory, these three discs will easily have you preoccupied for weeks.
