New York, New York - Bonus Edition

What Is It?

A minimalistic, no nonsense style release from New York legends 5Boro. This video is straight to the point; good skating and a comical look at characters on the streets of New York.

Who’s On It?

Sections from Danny Falla, Willy Akers, Dan Pensyl and Joe Tookmanian, along with friends and family.

Highlights

As with every 5Boro release, the skating is as realistic as it gets. There are no generator lit, perfect Californian schoolyards here, only grimy New York back alleys, dealers, rappers, graffiti artists and pimps. There’s no intro to this, so it goes straight into Danny Fallas section. Danny starts things off as they mean to go on, with nice lines as expected, block to many combos and a banging switch bigspin heelflip down those infamous wooden stairs.

Willy Akers resembles Kev Dawson in places and somewhat skates like him too. Willy is a fan of his rails and gaps, but not in a conventional way. His triple kinked 5050 pop to front lip down the last kink is a prime example of sort of creative handrail skating he is into.

Dan Pensyl keeps it strictly 5Boro, skating some rugged bank spots, harsh transitions, modified jersey barriers and rock fakies someones window ledge. Joe Toomanian has the last part, and is introduced by a pink suit clad pimp. Steez. Joe skates everything with ease including switch back tails on large handrails, and an epic switch heel ender down a massive set.

Overall

5Boro have been around in NY for a long time and have supported a large number of skateboarders over the years. Their videos have always been straight to the point and this one is no different. Hand crafted by 5Boro founder Steve Rodriguez, “New York, New York” builds on the reputation already long since established; interesting skating, interesting spots and no fucking about. If this sounds like you sort of thing you’ll be laughing. The new bonus edition also contains a grip of extras not seen on the original release.
