How to switch 180 No Comply with John Rattray.

This is the knock-your-mates-out-special in games of S.K.A.T.E. Harder to get your head round at first but easier to roll away from cleanly. Go and learn them – I want to see good examples!

1. I always finding that leaning back just before the action starts on this helps further down the track.

2. This part doesn’t come easily to most, and may require a few practice attempts to get dialled. The un-weighting is tricky whilst rolling in your opposite stance. As demonstrated here, clearing your switch front foot by rolling it towards the heel can sometimes be easier than a total lift. Again, you still have to be slightly un-weighting at the back of the board to avoid the board popping off in some random direction.

3. You’ll find at first the gap between the Switch front foot hitting the ground and the tail popping is a little longer whilst learning this in this stance. Practice, again, will sort this. The leaning back mentioned earlier helps now as you need to scoop frontside whilst popping. The leaning makes getting the leverage a touch simpler.

4. With this version of the no comply the switch back foot scooping comes much easier whilst your weight is firmly on the switch front foot.

5. Now you are to the point of jumping to get that switch front foot back over the board. This’ll feel more natural as you are working towards landing in your regular stance.

6. Bring that foot directly in over the tail. You may find yourself clipping your sole on the odd occasion. This’ll send your board off into the nearest puddle. The simple answer is to jump higher.

7. Once both feet are back on you are going to need to bend your legs.

8. Make sure your weight is back over your board evenly.

9. The good thing about the switch version is that if there are any major troubles…

10. …is that when you land it, it’s far simpler to correct balance issues as you are back in your regular stance.
