Off the beaten track – This one is an older trick although so worthy of the space in your trick bag. Always fun to throw out whilst cruising down the street, to stick in the middle of lines or just to mix it up on a bank.
1. You are going to want to have your front foot in a deep kickflip position. Kind of pointed at that same angle but more on the board. Your back foot sits in position like an ollie.
2. To get that front foot off the board, you are going to need to slightly un-weight the back, too. This’ll stop it from doing some sort of pressure flip. I say slightly because…
3. You don’t want a huge gap in time between your front foot hitting the ground and the tail popping. As your back foot pops downwards you want it to scoop towards your toe edge – Frontside.
4. Here comes the trust issue. As your back foot un-weights for you to jump and follow the tail through 180 degrees, you need to bring that front foot up, too. Your board should be in line with your shoulders at this point. From here on in you shoulders will always follow in line with the board.
5. The front foot has to come in over the nose. Your back foot needs to follow through on the tail, although it may be hovering slightly above it. This is fine. Nothing a tune up won’t sort later on.
6. By this time, your back foot is firmly in the position it’ll be staying in. Your front foot comes in just afterwards. The good thing here is that you have time to spot before you touch down.
7. Knees bent and a quick visual check on how close to bolts you got it…
8. …and you’ve got…
9. … three frames to…
10. …relax and enjoy.
